BIT Sindri Alumni Offer To Build 1000 Public Toilets

This news has been received through a message from Dr Neil Pundit, President of BIT Sindri Alumni Association of North America:

Dear fellow alumni,

I am pleased and proud to announce that two of our alumni have committed to building 1000 toilets in Bihar and Jharkhand at the cost of US$12M (INR 72 crores) in two years. The first project is the girls' dorms (hostels) at BIT Sindri.

The first and the enabling contributor is Dr Kris Pal Singh (1967 ME), Founder and President of Holtec International, who has committed $6M in cash. Kris requires a funding match by the owner or beneficiary for continued maintenance.

The second contributor and implementer is Shree N Sharma (1963 CHE), Managing Director of Capital Funding USA, who has accepted matching Dr Singh's condition from funds from the owner or beneficiary or Government sources or in the last resort from his pocket.

All of our alumni are encouraged to propose places where toilets can be built. A proposer is not required to be a funder. A bank account is to be opened under the Association's auspices, and a 5- member board of active alumni and biggest donors is to oversee the entire operation. We require the enterprise to be blind to caste, creed, and religion.

Please join me in our collective gratitude to Kris and Shree for this pioneering undertaking in national need. We are so very proud of them.

Further details and ongoing progress reports will be posted on our website www.bitsindri.org

Sincerely,

Neil Dwivedi Pundit, PhD, 1961 TC
