BIT Sindri Alumni Association of North America (BITSAA of NA) is pleased to announce the completion of the first set of five toilets for Girls Middle School Bariarpur, Munger (450 students including some boys and 15+ teachers are in the school). Besides five toilets, the project also included wash basins, shower facilities, urinals, associated piping, and the tube well with deep boring (> 300 feet) for drinking water and other uses. The teachers’ toilet has tiles and the mirror. It appears that quality materials have been used for construction. Attached are a few photos.

The students and teachers are very happy, and expressed gratitude. The project was initiated, and originally funded by Dr. Anil Singh (1964 Metallurgy). He was born in Bariarpur, and frequently visits his village. Anil with his wife Radha lives in Pasadena, California.

The entire project was completed in about 6 months at a cost of $9,000. BIT Sindri AA of NA has reimbursed Anil, $4,500 –half of the cost. Anil thanked the Association, and Dr. Krishna Pal Singh (1967 Mechanical) for his very generous donation that made the Matching Offer for Public Toilet Project possible.

The Bariarpur toilets construction project could serve as a model for similar projects in future. Presently three such projects are in various stages of approval process. The alumni are urged to take benefit of the Association’s offer of 50% matching fund for the construction of public toilets in Bihar and Jharkhand.
