Bokaro district, formed in 1991, is bounded on the north by parts of Dhanbad, Hazaribag and Giridih districts and on the south by Purulia district of West Bengal. To the east lies the district of Dhanbad and some portion of West Bengal, while to the west lies the district of Ramgarh.

Bokaro district comes under North Chotanagpur division and has two Sub-divisions - Chas and Bermo (Tenughat). North Chotanagpur division has its administrative headquarter at Hazaribag.

Bokaro Steel City is the district headquarter of Bokaro district. The Bokaro Steel city is the industrial township of Bokaro Steel Plant, made with the collaboration of USSR. The city is located on the banks of Garga River and on the fringes of Bokaro river and is surrounded by hill ranges at Giridih and Ramgarh districts.

Bokaro Steel City also includes the suburban area of Chas Municipal Corporation. It is bounded on the east by Dhanbad and Purulia, on the west by Ramgarh and Hazaribagh, on the north by Giridih and on the south by Ranchi.

Places of Interest in Bokaro
Bokaro Steel City is the district headquarter of Bokaro district. The Bokaro Steel city is the industrial township of Bokaro Steel Plant, made with the collaboration of USSR. It can be reached by air, rail or by road. The nearest airport is Birsa Munda Airport, Ranchi which is at a distance of about 120 Km. Bokaro Steel City has also a railway station which is about 12 Km from the main town. There are several places of interest where one can visit and spend quality time with family and friends:

City Center
Bokaro City Center is a the main shopping hub which houses major brands of clothing, electronics, food joints, banks, hardware and vehicles outlets etc. It is well planned with ample parking space and is located in sector 4 of Bokaro Steel City.

City Park
Situated in Sector 3 of Bokaro Steel City, the City Park has lush green surrounding, an artificial lake with boating facility, musical fountain and restaurants. It is about 2 Km from the City Center.

Jawaharlal Nehru Biological Park
It is situated 2km from the city centre. It is owned and managed by the Bokaro Steel Plant, Steel Authority of India Limited

Garga Dam
Garga Dam, situated around 12 km from the city centre near Bokaro railway station and is a popular picnic spot because of its lush green surroundings. Garga is a tributary of the Damodar River that flows on the southern parts of the city. Built in the 1950s, it is the first river valley project in India. The water from the dam is supplied to Bokaro Steel Plant and the City.

Luguburu Ghantabari
Luguburu Ghantabari (लुगू बुरु घांटाबड़ी) is a sacred place of pilgrimage for Santhalis. It is situated near Tenughat Thermal Power Plant in Lalpania about 16 km from Gomia Block in Bokaro district. Lugu Pahar, Lugu Pahar caves, Lugu Pahar temple and several small water falls like Lalpania waterfall which is also known as Sitanala or Chharchharia Jharna make the surroundings very beautiful and enjoyable for the tourists.
