The special CBI court in Ranchi on Saturday convicted former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav in the fodder scam case while Jagannath Mishra was aquitted. The case relates to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 89.27 lakh from Deoghar Treasury between 1991 and 1994 concerning Animal Husbandary Department.
Lalu Yadav alongwith fifteen other convicts were taken into custody immediately after the pronouncement of the judgement. The order relating to the quantum of punishment is likely to be pronounced on January 3, 2018.
It is expected that RJD will challenge the verdict in Higgh Court.
Others who were convicted include Jagdish Sharma (JDU ex-MP), R K Rana (former Bihar minister), Beck Jullus (former AHD secretary), Mahesh Prasad ( former AHD secretary) and Phool Chand Singh (ex-finance commissioer).
Those who were aquitted along with former Bihar chief minister Jagannath Mishra include Vidya Sagar Nishad (former AHD minister), Dhruv Bhagat (former MLA), A C Choudhary (former income tax commissioner), Saraswati Chandra (supplier) and Sadhna Chandra (supplier).
As per sources, Lalu Yadav has been lodged in Birsa Munda Central Jail in Ranchi and is entitled to get cushioned bed, TV, newspapers, magazines, books and food from outside the jail.
