BIT Sindri

(BJNS): BIT Sindri Alumni Association of North America has worked out a Rs 40+ lakhs project for toilet renovation in all the 5 girls' hostels and the Alumni House at BIT Sindri. According to a communique received from Dr Neil Pundit, President of BITSAA of North America, the project will be further extended to toilet renovation for all the boys' hostels, and all the academic and administrative buildings. Dr Pundit has already written to the Principal Secretary, Dept of Science & Technology, Govt of Jharkhand to issue a NO Objection Certificate to start the project.

Earlier, the alumni from North America who visited BIT Sindri campus were so moved by the unsanitary conditions and the indignities suffered by the girl students that they voluntarily started donating to remedy the situation. Inspired by Prime Minister's "Clean India Mission", industrialist and Distinguished Alumnus Dr Krishna Pal Singh (1967 ME) jumped-in to fund the project fully. Dr Singh is the founder and President of HOLTEC INTERNATIONAL, a member of the US National Academy of Engineering and a notable philanthropist.

The 'Toilet Renovation Project' is proposed to be implemented through a local Construction Supervisory Committee under the guidance of Dr Girijesh Kumar, Prof-in-Charge (Academic Section), BIT Sindri. Among others, the committee members will also include a final year resident girl student, Dr Deoraj K Tanti (Treasurer of the BITSAA, Sindri) and Mr Jyoti Swaroop Taneja of Sindri (brother of Satya Swaroop Taneja,1962 CE, a Distinguished Alumnus and founder of Nanak Foods based in Canada).
